The Wheel Of The Year - Beltane

Updated: Nov 19, 2024

Southern Hemisphere - October 31st

Northern Hemisphere - May 1st

The midpoint between Ostara (Spring Equinox) & Litha (Summer Solstice), Beltane celebrates the peak of Spring & Nature and all it brings - abundance, fertility, the vibrant energy of life!

Beltane sits opposite Samhain on The Wheel of the Year, and so once again, the veil between worlds is at its thinnest, making it a fantastic time to connect with the spirit world & your ancestors. The two Sabbats are polar opposites, with Samhain celebrating death and Beltane celebrating life.

Beltane, also known as May Day, honours love & the sacred union of the God & Goddess and is often celebrated with handfasting, and other pagan wedding rites.

Traditionally, a fire festival, Beltane is a celebrated with feasting, bonfires, flowers & dancing. It is this ancient pagan holiday that brought us the Maypole dance - weaving the energies of masculine (pole) & feminine (floral wreath & ribbons) in a celebration of love & fertility.
